Lawmakers are urging Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to declare the Muslim Brotherhood a Foreign Terrorist Organization. In a draft letter, 63 House Representatives called on Tillerson to endorse their Muslim Brotherhood Terrorist Designation Act. The designation could create new travel and financial restrictions on the organization in an effort to further isolate the group. Lawmakers argued local Muslim Brotherhood branches are already outlawed throughout the Middle East. Earlier this year, Tillerson called the brotherhood an agent of radical Islam. Several other countries including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates have already taken steps to ban the organization. Lawmakers say the United States should follow suit in order to make it harder for the group to function purposefully.
