In 2008, Dan Bitner sensed a shifting, anti-Christian attitude among politicians. “I felt the need to get more engaged,” Dan recalls. “I voted but was not as informed as I should have been. I’m afraid I was one of the ones who would get up to speed for every election cycle, vote and then go back to sleep.”
Now, as the Affiliate Leader of the Salt & Light Biblical Citizenship Ministry at Redeemer by the Sea Lutheran, Dan helps the church distribute a well-received voter guide that stresses the Biblical values and positions of candidates. The congregation also hosts periodic Salt & Light Prayer and Action meetings. Dan observes, “We continue to do what we can to wake up people. I see this as a long-term project. I view the difficulty as people not always connecting the dots between the Biblical position of a candidate and their Christian principles, and how they do—or do not—work or live according to a Biblical worldview.”
