Christian Legal Society (CLS) is a nationwide fellowship of Christians commited to acting justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly with their God (Micah 6:8).

Founded in 1961, CLS defends the religious liberties of all Americans in the legislatures and the courts and serves those most in need in our society through Christian Legal Aid.

Advocates for Faith and Freedom is a non-profit law firm dedicated to protecting religious liberty in the courts. Our mission is to engage in cases that will uphold our religious liberty and America’s heritage and to educate Americans about our fundamental constitutional rights. We recognize that America was founded on Judeo-Christian principles. The Alliance Defending Freedom is a servant organization that provides the resources that will keep the door open for the spread of the Gospel through the legal defense of religious freedom, the sanctity of life, marriage and the family. “The Alliance Defending Freedom is a legal alliance defending the right to hear and speak the Truth through strategy, training, funding, and litigation.” Responding to the urgent need for a strong, coordinated legal defense of religious freedom, the leaders of more than 35 ministries – including the late Dr. Bill Bright, the late Larry Burkett, Dr. James Dobson, the late Dr. D. James Kennedy, and the late Marlin Maddoux – came together and launched ADF in 1994 to aggressively defend religious liberty by empowering our allies, recognizing that we can accomplish far more together than we can alone. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5

Churches, Free Speech, and the Regulations of the IRS Regarding Elections The First Amendment clearly protects Churches’ right to speak on moral issues of the day and, to develop and disseminate information on public policy matters. In recent years, however, some have attempted to intimidate pastors and their churches from getting involved in political matters during elections. The chief tool of intimidation has been the threat of loss of a church’s tax-exempt status under 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Liberal advocacy groups and some government officials selectively target churches with a conservative viewpoint who speak out on political and social matters. They invoke provisions of the Internal Revenue Code restricting political speech by churches, and attempt to revoke a church’s tax exempt status. As a result of these efforts to chill churches’ exercise of Amendment rights, churches are confused and intimidated.
