Dear Fellow Patriots and Parents,
June is here, and with it comes the perfect season to prepare our children for the greatest celebration in American history — the United States Semiquincentennial, America's 250th birthday on July 4, 2026.

While public schools push indoctrination, data mining, and agendas that erode faith, family, and freedom, homeschool families are building the future.

This month we celebrate homeschool excellence on the athletic field, expose ongoing threats to our hard-won freedoms, highlight better testing options, and give you concrete summer activities to raise up young Americans who understand the price of liberty and the principles of our Founding.

The data is clear: Homeschooling has exploded from just 13,000 students in the 1970s to over 5 million today. As Senator Mike Lee recently declared: "Homeschooling is the future. It could save America."

It's time to exit the system. It's time for real education.

Athletic Excellence

Ginny Gareau, Homeschool Freshman,
Tops Virginia High Jump Charts!

Ginny Gareau, a homeschool freshman, cleared an impressive 5'8" at the O’Connell April Classic — setting a personal record and topping Virginia’s high school girls’ high jump charts. She later won at 5'6" at the Centurions Classic.

Competing with the NVHAA Centurions, a Christian-centered homeschool athletic association, Ginny proves homeschoolers don't just excel academically—they dominate on the field too. Virginia law prevents homeschoolers from competing on public school teams, so organizations like NVHAA and the Fairfax Homeschool Athletic Association fill the gap, allowing competition against public, private, and other homeschool teams, including national tournaments.

Her mother Katy Gareau, a Centurions girls’ basketball coach and St. Andrew the Apostle Church parishioner, shared: “Sports is a way to teach kids how to deal with difficulties that they’ll approach in life... And having the Christian view, it teaches you to not look at things without God.”

Key takeaway: Homeschooling now serves 3.4 million students (6.2% of school-age population). Athletic associations like NVHAA are essential for well-rounded formation. Parents across the country are building these communities—you can too!

Freedom Watch: Threats to Homeschool Liberty

■ HSLDA Warns of Coordinated Assault on Parental Rights
Homeschool freedom — hard-won over decades — is under attack through subtle but dangerous legislation. HSLDA reports:

• Nebraska (L.B. 937): Signed into law. Prevents parents under investigation (even if reports are unsubstantiated — 2/3 of reports are dismissed) from immediately homeschooling or transferring children for up to 14 days. A direct hit on parental authority.
• Connecticut (H.B. 5468): Passed Senate. Requires DCF screening for families withdrawing to homeschool; bars homeschooling if under investigation or parent on registry — even without evidence of danger.
• West Virginia: Multiple bills attempted to restrict withdrawal during abuse/neglect accusations but were defeated thanks to vigilant families and HSLDA advocacy.

Why it matters: These bills normalize government oversight of educational choice based on unproven allegations, conflicting with constitutional parental rights. HSLDA continues fighting in legislatures and courts.

■ DATA MINING ALERT:
"Today's Student Data is Tomorrow's Reputation"
Rhonda Thomas of Truth in Education sat down with education policy expert Peg Luksik for a powerful interview on GoldMind: Student Data Mining. Schools are building permanent digital profiles on your children through apps like ClassDojo (behavior scoring), Infinite Campus (predictive analytics), remote proctoring, social media monitoring, and even license plate tracking via Thomson Reuters CLEAR.

This isn't just "safety" — it's surveillance that creates social-credit-style profiles without parental consent. Data collected today can shape your child's future reputation, opportunities, and even access to services.

The CLT: A Better Test for Classically-Educated Students

The SAT is back — but is there a better alternative? The Classic Learning Test (CLT) is a two-hour exam designed specifically for students grounded in the Western canon. Key advantages over SAT/ACT:

• Uses classic texts from the Western tradition instead of news clips or Common Core-aligned passages.
• No calculator in core sections — emphasizes true mathematical reasoning.
• Longer, richer reading passages (hundreds of words) that reward deep comprehension.
• No adaptive scoring that penalizes strong students.
• Explicitly aims to restore academic rigor and encourage classrooms to teach the classics.

CLT founder Jeremy Tate describes it as part of the "battle to save Western civilization." For homeschool families using classical education (trivium, great books, logic & rhetoric), the CLT aligns perfectly with how your children actually learn and think.

Project Idea of the Month:
LIVING WAX MUSEUM

The Miami Valley Homeschool Club in Ohio hosted an unforgettable interactive Living Wax Museum where students researched and portrayed historical figures — from Anne Frank and Amelia Earhart to Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Edison, and Sacagawea. Visitors pressed red buttons at each station to "activate" the figure, who then shared their story in first person.

Educational Gold: Weeks of deep research, public speaking practice, confidence building, and making history human. One student discovered Thomas Edison was homeschooled. Another learned Sacagawea married young.

Perfect for America's 250th: Adapt this for summer or early fall by focusing on Founding Fathers and Patriots — George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Betsy Ross, Paul Revere, Abigail Adams, or local Revolutionary War heroes. Add a "Press for Liberty" button and have students recite key lines from the Declaration or Constitution.

How to do it: Form a small co-op group or family project. Research one figure per child. Create simple costumes/props. Set up in garage, backyard, or church hall. Invite grandparents, neighbors, or other homeschool families. Film it for memories and sharing! Full article & inspiration

SUMMER HOMESCHOOL ACTIVITIES & AMERICA'S 250TH PREP

This summer, don't just "take a break" — prepare young patriots. Use the coming months to root your children in the ideas, sacrifices, and documents that birthed the freest nation in history. Here are practical, faith-friendly ideas perfect for June–August:
1. Founding Documents Intensive: Read the Declaration of Independence aloud as a family (practice for July 4). Discuss each grievance. Memorize the first two paragraphs. Compare to modern issues of liberty.
2. Classical Conversations Style: Dive into Classical vs. Modern Education. Use memory work for presidents, states & capitals, key dates (1776, 1787, 1789), and famous speeches. The trivium (grammar, logic, rhetoric) is the perfect tool for understanding the Founders.
3. Biography Month: Assign each child a Founder or Patriot. Read age-appropriate bios, watch documentaries, write first-person journals. Bonus: dress up as your figure for dinner one night.
4. Living History Challenge: Build on the Wax Museum idea. Create short skits of the Boston Tea Party, signing of the Declaration, or a debate between Federalists and Anti-Federalists.
5. Patriotic Crafts & Art: Quill pen writing with tea-stained paper; family coat of arms with liberty symbols; 13-star flag sewing or painting; 'Liberty Tree' family timeline.
6. Field Trips & Virtual Tours: Visit local historical sites, battlefields, or museums. Virtual tours of Independence Hall, Mount Vernon, Monticello. Many are free or low-cost in summer.
7. Service & Witness: Help organize or participate in a local 250th planning committee at church or community center. Share why homeschooling preserves the American experiment.
8. Outdoor + History: Nature walks while discussing Lewis & Clark (or local state history). Map the original 13 colonies. Stargaze and talk about Washington at Valley Forge or the Star-Spangled Banner.
